SACRAMENTO (Mar. 20) Sara Johnson won
her second javelin competition in as many meets and Seattle
Pacific University won the women's 1600-meter relay Saturday at
the Panther/Stan Wright Invitational at Hughes Stadium.
Allie Hedges (So., Richland, Wa.) took first
place in the pole vault to account for the Falcons' other victory
as they began eight days of training and competition over spring
break.
Johnson (Jr., Kennewick, Wa.), already an NCAA
Division II provisional qualifier, threw the spear 137 feet, 10
inches. She won her last outing with a mark of 147-7.
Kenyatta Leonhardt (Fr., Petaluma, Ca.) gave
the long relay the lead and Jennifer Marsh (Fr., Kirkland,
Wa./Juanita) held off the anchor leg from Sacramento City College
to win the relay in 3 minutes, 56.21 seconds. Leonhardt was second
in the open 400 (57.53) and fourth in the 200 (25.82). Marsh was
third in the 400 (58.34). Both ran on the runner-up 400 relay
(48.63).
Hedges cleared 11-0 to win the vault, with
teammate Amy Harris (So., Philomath, Or.) next at 10-6. In the
high jump, Dianna Grossglass (So., LaConner, Wa.) and Sharon
Bjella (Fr., Everett, Wa./Everett) tied for second at 5-4.
Elsewhere on the track, Kelsey Gleason (So.,
Salem, Or.) ran second in the 400 hurdles (1:05.54).
For the SPU, Micah Kellcy (Sr., Lakewood,
Wa./Clover Park) ran a season-best 55.41 to take sixth in the 400
hurdles. Chris Randolph (So., Lone Tree, Co.) scratched from
competition after suffering an ankle sprain in warm-ups for the
pole vault.
Up at the Oregon Preview in Eugene, Tim LeCount
(Jr., Battle Ground, Wa.) was 10th in the 3000 (8:41.38) and Eddie
Strickler (Fr., Richland, Wa.) was 14th in the 800 (1:56.27.).
A handful of men and women will see action
beginning Wednesday in Berkeley at the California Multi-Event
meet. The rest of the team gets back into competition at the
Stanford and Hornet Invitationals.
