Falcons' Gustafson Makes Women's Basketball All-West Region First Team

Valerie Gustafson of Seattle Pacific University has earned Daktronics All-West Region honors in women’s basketball.

SEATTLE (Mar. 9) – Valerie Gustafson of Seattle Pacific University was among six players from NCAA tournament-bound teams to earn Daktronics All-West Region honors in women’s basketball.

Gustafson (Sr., 6-0, Olympia, Wa./Black Hills), the Falcons’ leading scorer and the Great Northwest Athletic Conference player of the year, was the only individual from a Northwest team to make the first team.

Joining her on the first team were Candice Allen of Cal Pomona, Kelly McRee of Grand Canyon, Kim Abts of Chico State and Monica Tokoro of Cal State L.A. Gustafson, Allen (the NCAA scoring leader), McRee, Abts and second team picks Tessa DeBoer of Western Washington and Robyn White of Chico State will all be in action beginning Friday when the NCAA Division II West Regional tournament opens in Seattle Pacific’s Brougham Pavilion.

Gustafson ranks seventh in the GNAC in scoring, averaging 15.1 points per game and also averages 6.1 rebounds per game. She is the conference leader in field goal percentage, converting on 57.3 percent of her shots, and also is among the GNAC leaders in steals (1.85).
