Chivers Makes Men's Basketball First Team All-GNAC, Bremerman Is Frosh of Year

Jason Chivers was voted to the all-Great Northwest Athletic Conference first team for men’s basketball.

Dustin Bremerman was selected as the GNAC freshman of the year.

SEATTLE (Mar. 8) – Jason Chivers, the Seattle Pacific University center who led the league in rebounding, was today voted to the all-Great Northwest Athletic Conference first team for men’s basketball while the Falcons’ Dustin Bremerman was selected as freshman of the year.

Chivers (Jr., 6-8, Los Angeles, Ca.) was the only SPU player to make either the first or second team all-GNAC. He averaged 11.3 rebounds, topped the team in scoring (16.3), field-goal percentage (.518) and blocked shots (1.81)and posted a league-best 18 double-doubles. Chivers was also among the GNAC leaders in free throw accuracy (.805) and was the first SPU center to lead the team in scoring and rebounding while averaging a double-double since Jim Ballard in 1974.

Joining Chivers on the all-conference first team were player of the year Brad Oleson of Alaska Fairbanks; Austin Nichols and Fred Hooks of Humboldt State; and Robert Day of Western Oregon.

Bremerman (Fr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa/Eisenhower) was Seattle Pacific’s No. 2 rebounder (4.7) and No. 3 scorer (12.5), and scored 30 points in last week’s game with Alaska Fairbanks.

Jordan Lee (Jr., 6-2, Tacoma, Wa./Life Christian) earned honorable mention all-conference after averaging 15.9 points and shooting 50.4 percent (68-135) on three-pointers. The Falcons, despite losing four starters from the previous season, finished the second 14-13 overall and tied for fourth in the final standings of the GNAC.
