USAG Third-Ranked Falcon Gymnasts Score 192.900 at OSU
March 5, 2004

CORVALLIS, Or. (Mar. 5)—Kari Kelly launched a 9.875 vault score to lead USA Gymnastics third-ranked Seattle Pacific University to season high 192.900 and a sixth place finish at the Salsbasgeon Invitational Friday night at Oregon State University.

The 192.900 team score was nearly a full point off the school record of 193.700, but good enough for second place on the all-time charts. The previous No. 2 score was 192.675 and was set in 2001 in a dual meet against UC Davis.

The NCAA Division I 13th-ranked Beavers won the meet easily with a 197.675 followed by Brigham Young with 197.150, Sacramento State (195.875) and Michigan State (195.875). Boise State was fifth, scoring 195.025.

Kari Kelly (Jr., Yakima, Wa.) launched a season high 9.875 on vault to lead the Falcons to a season high mark on the apparatus (48.475). All six gymnasts scored a 9.500 or better during the vault rotation.

Annastasia Ahr (Sr., San Antonio, Tx.) negotiated the Falcons’ top finish on balance beam, flipping a 9.750. Kelly hit 9.675 on floor and Melissa Stanton swung a season high 9.800 on bars to pace SPU.

Oregon State’s Chelsea Plourde scored a 9.975 to place first on vault and was second on bars and third on floor en route to a 39.650 victory in the all-around. Teammate Heidi Goehring swung a 9.950 on bars and Chrissy Lamun flipped a 9.950 on beam to finish first.

Tanya Ricioli-Hebron danced a 9.925 on the floor mats, tying with Brigham Young’s Tiffany Mabray for top honors. Mabray was the only gymnast to win an event that was not from the host school.

The Falcons return to Seattle for their last home meet of 2004 Monday night against Washington. Official start time is scheduled for 7PM. USA Gymnastics Nationals are April 8-10, in Denton, Tx. Seattle Pacific has finished among the top four teams the last 20 years running.
