3-Peat Selections Cohen, Gustafson Top Academic All-GNAC Picks

Seniors Chris Cohen and Valerie Gustafson made the Academic All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference basketball selections for the third year in a row.

SEATTLE (Mar. 3) – Seniors Chris Cohen and Valerie Gustafson of Seattle Pacific University were among eight men and women who made the Academic All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference basketball selections for the third year in a row.

The Falcons lead all GNAC men’s team with four representatives and the SPU women, also with four, were second to Central Washington.

Joining Cohen (Sr., 6-8, Saint Helens, Or.) were teammates Tony Binetti (So., 6-1, Enumclaw, Wa.), Jeff Knudson (So., 6-7, Mukilteo, Wa./Kamiak) and Jordan Lee (Jr., 6-2, Tacoma, Wa./Life Christian). Cohen is a communications major with a 3.54 grade point average. Lee, a two-time selection, is a Christian theology major with a 3.71 GPA. Knudson (biology, 3.55) and Binetti (business administration, 3.53) were selected for the first time.

On the women’s team, Gustafson (Sr., 6-0, Olympia, Wa./Black Hills) was accompanied by Michelle Beaumont (Jr., 5-11, Bellingham, Wa./Sehome), Brittney Kroon (So., 6-4, Wasilla, Ak.) and Mandy Wood (So., 5-6, Port Angeles, Wa.). Gustafson is European studies major with a 3.49 GPA. Beaumont , an art major with a 3.22 GPA, is a repeat selection. Kroon (social sciences, 3.62) and Wood (mathematics, 3.61) are first-time selections.

A total of 28 women and 17 men were named to the academic teams. To be eligible, student-athletes must have a minimum grade point average of 3.200 and be in at least their second year of competition at their institution.
