SPU Women Consolidate No. 1 Position in Hoops

SEATTLE (Mar. 2) – Seattle Pacific University consolidated its No. 1 ranking in NCAA Division II women’s basketball this week, adding six more first-place votes.

The Falcons (26-0), the lone remaining unbeaten team, marked their second week at the top by taking 18 of 23 first-place votes after getting 12 a week ago. No. 2 Drury (Mo.) got three votes and two other schools one each.

SPU concludes the regular season Saturday night at Central Washington. It has won 59 consecutive regular season games and 41 straight in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. Seattle Pacific has already clinched the GNAC title.

The NCAA will announce the 64-team field for the postseason tournament Sunday night. First-round play begins Mar. 12 and Seattle Pacific expects to be chosen as the top seed and host for the West Regional.
