FULLERTON, Ca. (Feb. 27)Kari Kelly won
the vault competition as USA Gymnastics second-ranked Seattle
Pacific University tumbled a season high team score in finishing
second to host Cal State Fullerton, and ahead of UC Davis 193.950
to 192.175 to 189.800 in a womens gymnastics meet Friday
night at Titan Gym.
Kellys (Jr., Yakima, Wa.) first place 9.8
vault score helped launch the Falcons well on their way to a
season high team total of 192.175, and marked the best finish by
an SPU athlete in the meet. Corrie McDaniel (Jr., Lawrence, Ks.)
vaulted a third place 9.725 en route to a second place all-around
finish (37.6).
The Titans Erica Ficarotta placed first
on the uneven bars (9.800) and balance beam (9.875) on her way to
handily winning the all-around competition with 39.025. Teammate
Latoya Milburn managed a 9.875 victory on the floor mats.
Huss (Fr., Orangevale, Ca.) danced a share of
second place on floor exercise, scoring a 9.825 tie with Fullertons
Sharon Snell. The freshman negotiated the four-inch wide balance
beam to a third place 9.8, just behind Ficarotta and Brittany
Evans (9.850).
Seattle Pacific (4-7) visits Oregon State for
its next meet on Mar. 5 against the host and visitors Brigham
Young, Michigan State and Boise State. Official start time is 7 oclock.
SPUs last home meet is March 5, against Washington.
