Second-Ranked Falcon Gymnasts Score Season High at Fullerton
February 27, 2004

FULLERTON, Ca. (Feb. 27)—Kari Kelly won the vault competition as USA Gymnastics second-ranked Seattle Pacific University tumbled a season high team score in finishing second to host Cal State Fullerton, and ahead of UC Davis 193.950 to 192.175 to 189.800 in a women’s gymnastics meet Friday night at Titan Gym.

Kelly’s (Jr., Yakima, Wa.) first place 9.8 vault score helped launch the Falcons well on their way to a season high team total of 192.175, and marked the best finish by an SPU athlete in the meet. Corrie McDaniel (Jr., Lawrence, Ks.) vaulted a third place 9.725 en route to a second place all-around finish (37.6).

The Titans’ Erica Ficarotta placed first on the uneven bars (9.800) and balance beam (9.875) on her way to handily winning the all-around competition with 39.025. Teammate Latoya Milburn managed a 9.875 victory on the floor mats.

Huss (Fr., Orangevale, Ca.) danced a share of second place on floor exercise, scoring a 9.825 tie with Fullerton’s Sharon Snell. The freshman negotiated the four-inch wide balance beam to a third place 9.8, just behind Ficarotta and Brittany Evans (9.850).

Seattle Pacific (4-7) visits Oregon State for its next meet on Mar. 5 against the host and visitors Brigham Young, Michigan State and Boise State. Official start time is 7 o’clock. SPU’s last home meet is March 5, against Washington.
