LACEY, Wash. (Feb.19) Dustin Bremerman
and Ralph Steele scored 16 points apiece to lead five players in
double figures as Seattle Pacific University surged late in the
second half to down Saint Martins College 85-81, in a Great
Northwest Athletic Conference mens basketball game Thursday
night in Lacey.
The victory pushed the Falcons (8-6, 12-11) win
streak to three straight games, with four left to play during the
regular season.
Bremerman (Fr., Yakima, Wa.) garnered five
rebounds to go with his point total. Teammate Jason Chivers (Jr.,
Los Angeles, Ca.) chipped in 10 points and pulled down a game-high
15 rebounds.
Behind 32-45 at intermission, Seattle Pacific
battled to within one of the Saints with 11:25 left to play in the
contest, and took its first lead on a Steele jumper seconds later.
Over the course of the last 10 minutes, the lead changed hands 14
times.
Down 80-81 with 33 seconds left to play, Saint
Martins fouled SPU's Chad Williams (So., Burlington, Wa.).
The sophomore forward drained both free throws to put the Falcons
up 82-81.
With Seattle Pacifics lead at 83-81, Tony
Binetti (So., Enumclaw, Wa.) was fouled by Saint Martins
after a steal. Binetti hit both free-throws with one second
remaining on the game clock for the final margin.
Binetti finished the night with a dozen points
and three assists. Williams had 14 points and grabbed seven
rebounds. Niko Nunogawa led the Saints, pouring in a game-high 30
points.
Seattle Pacific plays its final road game
Saturday at Central Washington. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 oclock.
