Bremerman’s Career Night Leads SPU Past NNU
February 12, 2004

SEATTLE (Feb. 12) ­ Dustin Bremerman scored 21 of his career-high 29 points in the first half as Seattle Pacific University downed Northwest Nazarene, 94-85, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference men’s basketball game Thursday night at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons’ (6-6 GNAC, 10-11) broke a three-game losing skid and notched their fourth win in a row at home. The Crusaders (3-9 GNAC, 8-12) dropped their third consecutive game.

Jason Chivers (Jr., 6-8, Los Angeles, Ca.) scored 17 points, pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds and had six assists for SPU. Jordan Lee (Jr., 6-2, Tacoma, Wa./Life Christian) added 15 points and six assists.

Bremerman (Fr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) made his first six shots of the game and scored 17 points in a 4:06 span in the first half as the Falcons went up 31-10 with 12:01 to go. NNU went on a 29-10 run to narrow the gap to 41-39 with 3:34 left and the Falcons led 55-44 at the half.

SPU never trailed in the second half, but the Crusaders got to within 73-71 with 11:49 left before the Falcons reeled off nine straight points, including five by Jeff Knudson (So., 6-7, Mukilteo, Wa./Kamiak) and four from Bremerman. NNU managed to cut the lead to five (89-84) with 53 seconds to play, but Lee and Bremerman combined to hit 5-of-6 foul shots in the final minute to seal the win.

The Falcons shot 52 percent (32-61) from the field and hit 47 percent (9-19) from behind the arc. SPU, the top foul-shooting team in Division II, had an off night at the line, shooting just 21-for-31 (.677). The Crusaders outrebounded SPU, 38-33.

Brian Bieker led five Crusaders in double figures with 16 points.

The Falcons host Seattle University Saturday at 7 p.m.
