MONMOUTH, Or. (Feb. 7) Jason Chivers
poured in 28 points and had 11 rebounds and Jordan Lee chipped in
23 points but it was not enough to lift Seattle Pacific University
over Western Oregon as the Wolves handed SPU its third straight
Great Northwest Athletic Conference loss, 98-90 at the New P.E.
Building in Monmouth.
Seattle Pacific (5-6, 9-11) trailed 37-42 at
the half, as Chivers (Jr., Los Angeles, Ca./Highland-L.A. Trade
Tech) connected on a perfect five of five tries from the field.
The junior center had 18 of his team high 28 points in the second
half and was 11 for 15 from the field on the night.
Teammate Lee (Jr., Tacoma, Wa./Life Christian)
had 14 points in the first half, 12 of them on three-pointers. The
junior guard connected on eight of 14 shots on the night and was
five for seven from three-point land.
Western Oregons (12-8, 6-5) Sean Kelly
had a game-high 31 points to lead four Wolves in double figures.
Chris Olson and Evan Kieling had 17 apiece.
The Falcons led early, jumping out to an 8-2
lead less than a minute into the game. SPU shot 76 percent from
the field during the opening 14 minutes, and led by as many as 10
behind Lees hot shooting.
Seattle Pacific twice cut Western Oregons
lead to three during the waning minutes of the second half but was
unable to pull ahead.
Chivers pulled down 11 rebounds to go with his
28 points, for his 14th double-double in his last 15 outings.
Ralph Steele (Jr., North Birmingham, Al./Huffman-Citrus JC)
chipped in 14 points for SPU.
The Falcons return to Seattle for a two-game
home stand beginning Thursday with a GNAC match-up against
Northwest Nazarene. Tip-off is at 7:30.
