SEATTLE, Wa. (Feb. 7)Kari Kelly won vault
and Corrie McDaniel finished first on the uneven bars as Seattle
Pacific University won its second consecutive gymnastics meet at
home, out-tumbling Mountain Pacific Sports Federation rivals
Alaska Anchorage and UC Davis 191.825 to 190.925 to 187.650,
respectively, Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion.
Kelly (Jr., Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) launched a
9.800 vault to start the meet for Seattle Pacific. The junior is a
returning All-American on the apparatus.
On bars, All-American all-arounder McDaniel
(Jr., Lawrence, Ks.) swung a first place 9.750 tie with UC Davis
Nicole Dougherty during the second rotation. The junior also
finished third in the all-around competition with a season high
38.250.
Alaska Anchorages Dominique Ingram won
the all-around with a 38.350 total over four events. Ingram
finished at the top of the awards podium on beam (9.8) and floor
exercise (9.9), narrowly beating the Falcons Debra Huss
(9.875) on the latter. Huss was fourth all-around, with 38.225.
The Falcons highest event total of the night
came on bars where all five counting scores were 9.6 or higher.
SPU compiled a 48.450 on the unevens.
Davis Tiffany Chan and Doherty tied for
third on balance beam with 9.750. Chan also launched a third place
vault (9.675) to round out podium finishes.
Seattle Pacific (3-3) travels to California for
a pair of road meets next week. The Falcons are at Cal, on Friday
night and at the MPSFs San Jose State, Saturday. Official
start time both nights is 7 oclock.
