SEATTLE, Wa. (Jan. 31)Corrie McDaniel won
the uneven bars and Debra Huss danced her way to first on floor
exercise as Seattle Pacific University tumbled its first win of
the season over San Jose State 191.900 to 191.375 Friday night, in
a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation gymnastics meet at Brougham
Pavilion.
The Falcons (1-3) tumbled a season high team
score and got podium finishes from six different gymnasts
including McDaniels (So., Lawrence, Ks.) 9.825 bar victory
and Huss (Fr., Orangevale, Ca.) top finish on floor (9.825).
McDaniel also launched a second place vault
during the opening rotation with a 9.6. Teammate Cindy Reed (So.,
Antioch, Ca.) finished in a tie for third with 9.475.
On the uneven bars, Huss managed a third place
9.775 and negotiated the four-inch wide balance beam to a second
place 9.750. The freshman scored second to the Spartans
Shirla Choy(38.750) in the all-around competition with a 38.725.
McDaniel finished third with 38.250.
Seattle Pacifics best event score of the
night was 48.425 on the floor exercise mats where five of six
competitors notched totals of at least 9.600. Annastasia Ahr (Sr.,
San Antonio, Tx.) finished second just behind Huss, in a tie with
San Joses Adriane Mertens with 9.825.
The Falcons have finished among the top four
NCAA Division II gymnastics teams each of the last 20 years.
Seattle Pacific resumes its two-meet home stand
with a three-way meet against the MPSFs Alaska Anchorage and
UC Davis next Saturday night. Official start time is scheduled for
7p.m.
