No. 5 SPU Women Move to 16-0

SEATTLE (Jan. 24) ­ Kristin Poe scored 11 of her 15 points in the pivotal second half and Michelle Beaumont finished with 15 as the No. 5 Seattle Pacific University women won their 16th straight, 74-40 over Western Oregon in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action on Homecoming Saturday at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons (16-0, 7-0 GNAC), ranked first in the West Region, have now won 31 consecutive conference games and 49 straight regular season contests.

After leading 27-26 at halftime, SPU outscored the Wolves (4-10, 3-4 GNAC) 47-14 in the second half. The Falcons led 39-33 with 12:41 left before reeling off 15 consecutive points all while holding WOU scoreless during that 4:39 stretch. SPU also forced 19 of the Wolves’ 31 turnovers in the second half.

SPU’s Amy Taylor (Jr., 5-8, Shoreline, Wa./Shorewood-Oregon) added 12 points, Kristin Poe (Sr., 5-8, Enumclaw, Wa./Enumclaw) dished a game-high six assists while Beaumont (Jr., 5-11, Bellingham, Wa./Sehome) pulled down a season-high seven rebounds.

The Falcons outrebounded Western Oregon 39-23 and forced the Wolves into 40 percent shooting (15-37). Seattle Pacific finished with 16 steals and seven blocks. Brittney Kroon (So., 6-4. Wasilla, Ak), the GNAC’s top shot blocker, had four swats.

Serenity Ragone led Western Oregon with 12 points.

SPU next plays at Northwest Nazarene on Thursday (Jan. 29) in the first of four straight road games.
