SEATTLE (Jan. 19) – Paul Mach of Seattle Pacific University earned male indoor track & field athlete of the week in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference after running a record time in the 800 meters in the first meet.

Mach (Sr., Seattle, Wa./ King's) won 800 meters in an NCAA Division II provisional national qualifying time of 1:52.67 at the UW Indoor Open, bettering the national standard by 1.63 seconds. He was just 1.37 seconds off the automatic standard and set a new SPU indoor record. Ted Hamlin had run 1:52.9 in 1992.

The Falcons’ next indoor meet is Feb. 1 at Washington.
