Mach Speeds to 800 Meter Victory at UW Indoor Open; Hedges, Studer One-Two in Pole Vault
January 18, 2004

SEATTLE, Wa. (Jan. 18)—Paul Mach ran the fastest time in NCAA Division II to finish first in the men’s 800 meters at the University of Washington Indoor Open track meet at Dempsey Indoor Saturday afternoon.

Mach (Sr., Seattle, Wa./King’s) was clocked in a personal best 1:52.69 seconds on the oval, the best time in NCAA Division II thus far. The senior is a three-time outdoor Great Northwest Athletic Conference champion on the 400 meter hurdles. Mach also ran second leg on the men’s 4 x 400 meter B relay.

On the women’s side, Allison Hedges (So., Richland, Wa.) and Ally Studer (Sr., Redmond, Wa.) cleared 3.50 meters (11-6) in the pole vault to take first and second places. Hedges won based on fewer misses. Both missed attempts at 12 feet.

Sharon Bjella (Fr., Everett, Wa.) and Dianna Grossglass (So., LaConner, Wa.) cleared the high jump bar at 1.60 meters (5’3) and freshman Jennifer Marsh (Kirkland, Wa./Juanita) ran a 2:18 in the 800 meters.

Seattle Pacific competes indoors next at the University of Washington on Feb. 1. NCAA Division II Indoor nationals are March 12-13, in Boston.
