Seventh-Ranked Falcon Women Cruise to 14th-Straight Win
January 17, 2004

ANCHORAGE, Ak. (Jan. 17)—Valerie Gustafson scored 17 points to lead three Falcons in double figures as 7th-ranked Seattle Pacific University cruised to its 14th straight victory, disposing of Alaska Anchorage 76-40 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s basketball game Saturday night at Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

Gustafson (Sr., Olympia, Wa./Black Hills) poured in 12 of her game-high 17 points in the first half on perfect shooting (6-6). The senior forward finished with seven rebounds, was eight of nine from the field and dished out a game high five assists on the night.

Amy Taylor (Jr., Shoreline, Wa./Shorewood) and Jenny Poe (So., Enumclaw, Wa./Enumclaw/Portland State) joined Gustafson in double figures with 13 and 11 points, respectively. Poe connected on five of six shots and grabbed a game-high nine boards-- five on the offensive end.

Seattle Pacific went into the locker room at the half with a 39-19 lead but the Seawolves clawed their way into the game and cut Seattle Pacific’s lead to 14 (40-54) with 7:56 to play in the game. The Falcons put together a 22-0 run for the final margin.

Amber Nasby and Tanya Nizich led Anchorage with 11 and 10 points apiece. UAA shot a dismal 20.3 percent (12-59) in the contest and were just three of 15 from beyond the three-point arc.

Britney Kroon (So., Wasilla, Ak.), playing in front of her home crowd, scored six points, pulled down seven rebounds and had a half-dozen blocks. Statistically, Kroon rates second among NCAA Division II shot blockers.

Seattle Pacific (5-0, 14-0) is unbeaten in 29 consecutive GNAC games and 47 straight regular season contests. The Falcons return to Seattle for a Thursday evening (Jan. 22) meeting with Humboldt State and will play Western Oregon for homecoming Saturday (Jan 24). Tip-offs are scheduled for 5:30 and 1:30PM, respectively.
