FAIRBANKS, Ak. (Jan. 15) Amy Taylor
scored eight of her 12 points in the final nine minutes and
Valerie Gustafson finished with 18 as No. 7-ranked Seattle Pacific
University held on for its 13th straight win, 76-70 over Alaska
Fairbanks in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference womens
basketball game Thursday night at Patty Center.
Taylor (Jr., 5-8, Shoreline, Wa./Shorewood)
connected on a pair of three-pointers after the Nanooks had closed
within 55-54 with 8:30 remaining. Taylors second trey pushed
the SPU advantage back to 63-56 and, later, a Gustafson (Sr., 6-0,
Olympia, Wa./Balck Hills) layup put the visitors ahead by nine,
69-60, with 3:06 to go.
Seattle Pacific (4-0, 13-0) is now unbeaten in
28 consecutive GNAC games and 46 straight regular season contests.
It plays at Alaska Anchorage Saturday night.
Adrienne Taalak of Alaska Fairbanks (2-2, 6-6)
topped all players with 32 points26 coming in the second
half. She hit 6-8 three-pointers and UAF was 10-20 from beyond the
arc. The Nanooks trailed virtually the entire game and by 10,
41-31, at halftime.
Gustafson was 8-13 from the floor and also had
four steals. Brittney Kroon (So., 6-4, Wasilla, Ak.) hit all five
of her field goals and had 11 points and four blocked shots for
SPU, which shot 53 percent (27-51) to 42 percent (23-55) for
Fairbanks. The Falcons missed 12 of 31 free throws.
