SEATTLE (Jan. 8) -- Kristin Poe scored 23 points to lead the No. 8 Seattle Pacific University women to an 80-71 win over Western Washington in Great Northwest Athletic Conference action Thursday night at Brougham Pavilion. The Falcons (2-0, 11-0) extended their regular season win streak to 44 games and have now won 26 consecutive conference games.

Poe (Sr., 5-8, Enumclaw, Wa./Enumclaw) scored 16 of her career-high tying 23 points in the first half as SPU took a 34-31 halftime lead.

The Vikings (2-1, 9-3) opened the second half with an 11-2 run to take their largest lead of the second half at 42-36 before the Falcons came back to tie the game at 48.

Western regained the lead at 50-48 before Mandy Wood (So., 5-6, Port Angeles, Wa.) hit one of her five three-pointers to put SPU up for good (51-50) with 10:47 left. After the Falcons extended their lead to 69-60, Western pulled within four and couldn't get any closer as SPU hit key shots and free throws down the stretch.

Wood finished with 17 points (5-7 3FGs) and six assists for SPU while Valerie Gustafson (Sr., 6-0, Olympia, Wa./Black Hills) added 14 before fouling out with five minutes remaining. Poe left the game with three minutes left after suffering a charleyhorse on her right knee. She is listed as day-to-day.

Kelly Colard had 14 points, Tessa DeBoer scored 13 and Tina Donahue added 12 points and nine rebounds to lead Western.

The Falcons shot 44 percent from the field and outrebounded Western 43-33.
