Bremerman's Treys, Chivers' Boards Pace SPU to Road Win
December 16, 2003

LA JOLLA, Calif. (Dec. 16) -- Dustin Bremerman poured in 20 points, mostly from long range, and Jason Chivers powered inside for 16 plus a career-high 18 rebounds as Seattle Pacific University posted its third win in four games, 80-67 over UC San Diego in a non-conference basketball game at the RIMAC Arena Tuesday night.

The Falcons (4-3) also got 17 points from point guard Tony Binetti as they resumed play following a 10-day break and picked up their third win during a stretch of five in a row on the road.

Bremerman (Fr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) put Seattle Pacific ahead to stay, 49-47, hitting a three-pointer from Binetti's feed with 12:37 remaining. Bremerman hit 4 of 7 shots from outside the arc and 8-13 field goals overall. He has averaged 15.0 points in his five games since earning a starting position.

The trey by Bremerman ignited a 16-4 run by the Falcons. Chivers (Jr., 6-8, Los Angeles) scored twice underneath and hauled down five rebounds during the spree, after which the visitors led 63-53. The Tritons (1-5) got no closer than six the rest of the way.

Seattle Pacific owned the lead much of the first half. Chivers and Bremerman each had 12 points by the break, with SPU holding a 35-30 lead. UCSD went in front briefly on two occasions in the second period before Bremerman connected on three-pointers on consecutive possessions.

Behind Chivers, who snared seven offensive boards, Seattle Pacific finished with a 39-27 edge in rebounds. It was the third straight double double for Chivers, who also had four assists and two steals.

Both teams shot 45 percent from the floor. Binetti had his best scoring game as a collegian, hitting 6-10 shots and passing for five assists. Jordan Lee (Jr., 6-2, Tacoma, Wa./Life Christian), who had averaged 23.0 points in the last four games, took just five shots and scored five points.

Parker Berling paced UCSD with 15 points. It was the third straight loss for the Tritons.

SPU moves on to the High Desert Classic in Las Vegas where it meets Cal State San Bernardino Friday in the first round.
