Seattle Pacific Women Beat Montana State Billings
November 22, 2003

SEATTLE (Nov. 22) -- Valerie Gustafson scored a career-high 24 points to lead the No. 22 Seattle Pacific women's basketball team to a 66-42 win over Montana State Billings in the second round of the Falcon Hoop Classic on Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion. With the win, the Falcons (2-0) extended their regular season win streak to 35 games.

Gustafson (Sr., 6-0, Olympia, Wa./Black Hills) also grabbed 10 rebounds, tying her career high. She was named Falcon Hoop Classic tournament MVP. Reserve guard Mandy Wood (So., 5-6, Port Angeles, Wa.) chipped in 10 points for the Falcons.

After trailing MSU Billings (2-2) by five early in the first half, the Falcons broke the game open with a 23-6 second-half run that gave them their largest lead (26) with 7:23 remaining in the game. SPU forced the Yellowjackets into 29 turnovers and held them to their fewest points ever in the all-time series.

Tanya Peterson led MSU Billings with 10 points and Robyn Milne had a game-high 13 rebounds for the Yellowjackets.

Milne joined SPU's Brittney Kroon (So., 6-4, Wasilla, Ak.) and Kristin Poe (Sr., 5-8, Enumclaw, Wa.) on the Falcon Hoop Classic All-Tournament team. Kroon finished with nine blocked shots in the two games while Poe totaled 12 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists in the pair of wins.

The Falcons travel to play Lewis-Clark State on Friday (Nov. 28) and Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday (Nov. 29) in the Crusader Classic at Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Id.

In the earlier game of the Falcon Hoop Classic on Saturday afternoon, UC San Diego beat Central Washington 79-67.
