Late 3-Pointer by SW Baptist Repels Seattle Pacific Rally, Bearcats Men Win 65-60
November 22, 2003

SEATTLE (Nov. 22) – Jarrett Brown hit a go-ahead 20-foot three-pointer with 20 seconds left and Southwest Baptist (Mo.) to a 65-60 win over Seattle Pacific University in the final game of the Wilcox Farms Tip-Off Classic Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion.

Brown, who had a game-high 22 points, snapped a 60-60 tie after the Falcons (1-1) had rallied from a nine-point hole. Ralph Steele (Jr., 6-2, No. Birmingham, Al./Citrus JC) of SPU attempted a three-pointer with 5 seconds to go but it missed left. The Bearcats (1-1) got possession off the rebound and Marcus Jackson made two free throws for the final margin.

The cold-shooting Falcons were led by Mike Bushmaker’s (So., 6-7, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower)12 points and Dustin Bremerman (Fr., 6-4, Yakima, Wa./Eisenhower) came off the bench for 10. Seattle Pacific shot just 37 percent from the field (22-60), including 3-13 treys.

Southwest Baptist took a 46-37 lead early in the second half on Cedric Ousley’s three-pointer. A run of eight straight points by SPU knotted the score on a Steel layup with 2:58 remaining. Bremerman’s 8-footer with 48 seconds left preceded Brown’s trey.

Together, Brown and Ousley were 8-14 from behind the arc. Ousley finished with 14 points. The Bearcats shot 48 percent (21-44) and out-rebounded SPU 37-30, but committed 23 turnovers.

The Falcons forged ahead 31-23 before being plagued by foul trouble and offensive doldrums. Bushmaker’s two free throws put SPU ahead by eight but Brown got hot in the last six minutes of the half. He hit three treys and added four free throws to give the Bearcats a 39-35 edge at the break.

Brown made the all-tournament team along with Steele and Jason Chivers (Jr., 6-8, Los Angeles, Ca.) of Seattle Pacific. Northwest Nazarene, which defeated Saint Leo (Fl.) 65-62 earlier, was represented by Derek Olich and Masut Ademoglu.

SPU next plays at Chico State Friday night.
