SEATTLE For those who are starving for
the new college basketball season, Seattle Pacific University is
setting out a veritable feast this weekend, hosting two
tournaments and eight games in two days at Brougham Pavilion.
The SPU women, favored to repeat as Great
Northwest Athletic Conference champion and ranked No. 22 in the
NCAA Division II preseason poll, will face US San Diego in the
opening game of the Falcon Hoop Classic Friday at 5 p.m. They play
Montana State Billings in a rematch of last years West
Regional semifinal Saturday at 5. Last year the Falcons won their
first 29 games before falling in the regional championship game.
Also making their debut in are the Seattle
Pacific men, who host the Wilcox Farms Tip-Off Classic. The
Falcons lost four starters from a 16-11 squad which nearly made
the NCAA tournament. They meet Floridas Saint Leo and
Missouris Southwest Baptist Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. in
the After that, the next seven games are on the road.
Rounding out the tournament fields are Central
Washingtons women, who play at 1 p.m. each day, and
Northwest Nazarenes men, who play daily at 3.
General admission is $5 and $3 for students.
Reserved seating is $7 and $6. Tickets are good for all four games
each day.
