SEATTLE (Nov. 15) -- Jason Chivers recorded his
second consecutive double-double with 25 points and 14 rebounds to
lead Seattle Pacific University past AnotherLevel Blue Angels
95-88 in a preseason exhibition game at Brougham Pavilion Saturday
afternoon.
The Falcons, who improve to 2-0 in preseason
action, led the Blue Angels for the entire contest with the
exception of the opening bucket. The Blue Angels made things
interesting by pulling to within one point with 2:43 remaining
before the Falcons closed on an 11-5 run led by four points from
Chivers (Jr., 6-8, Palmdale, Ca.).
Former Western Washington University standout
Jacob Stevenson led the Blue Angels with 30 points which were
keyed by 10-of-11 shooting from the charity stripe. Brian Dennis
finished with a 15-point, 12-rebound double-double.
SPU opened the contest with a 24-11 lead that
eventually extended to 17 by the end of the half. The Blue Angels
were turnover-prone in the first stanza, handing the ball over 12
times for 16 Falcon points.
Chivers led the Falcons fast start with 14
points and three assists.
The Blue Angels second half spurt came from the
paint where they outscored SPU 34-16. Dennis led the effort for
the Blue Angels, scoring 11 of his 15 points in the second half.
Dennis also added two blocks.
The Falcons defensive effort remained strong
throughout the contest as constant pressure forced 21 Blue Angel
turnovers and 13 steals for SPU. Ralph Steele (Jr., N. Birmingham,
Al./Citrus JC) and Jordan Beede (Fr., Bellingham, Wa./Squalicum)
led the Falcons on defense with three steals apiece.
SPU hosts the Wilcox Farms Tip-off Classic Nov.
21-22 at Brougham Pavilion.
