SEATTLE (Nov. 14) -- The Seattle Pacific
University women's volleyball team rallied from three points down
late in game five to knock off Alaska-Fairbanks 28-30, 30-27,
30-27, 27-30, 15-13 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference
matchup Friday night at Brougham Pavilion. The victory snaps a
two-match home losing streak for the Falcons.
The Falcons (8-9, 15-9) were led by 15 kills
apiece from Katy Kravitz (Sr., Olympia, Wa./S. Colorado) and
Jessica Bauder (Jr., Richland, Wa./Col. Basin), while Mallory
Bergstrom led the Nanooks (10-7, 13-9) with 26 kills.
SPU fell behind 7-10 and 9-12 in game five
before Coach Kellie Ryan collected her team with a timeout. The
Falcons emerged from the huddle to rally for the victory led by a
pair of kills from Bauder who played the entire match with an
injured finger on her non-hitting hand. Bauder also added two
service aces.
Katy Higgins (Sr., Kirkland, Wa./Redmond)
played a pivotal role in the Falcon victory with nine kills and a
.389 hitting percentage from the setter position. She also added
53 assists.
Defensively, Katie Ralph (So., Port Orchard,
Wa./E. Tenn.) led SPU with three blocks, while Andrea Pennington
(Sr., Bellingham, Wa./Whatcom CC recorded a season-high 31 digs.
The Falcons finish off the 2003 season Saturday
night against Alaska-Anchorage at 7 p.m.
