Falcon Women Win Streak at Nine After 3-0 Romp Past Central
November 1, 2003

ELLENSBURG, Wa. (Nov. 1)—Jessica Henson and Shannon Lovejoy scored three goals to lift 12th-ranked Seattle Pacific University to its ninth straight win 3-0, over Central Washington in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s soccer match Saturday afternoon in Ellensburg.

The victory pushed the Falcons’ unbeaten streak to 16 games and clinched at least a tie for the conference crown. Seattle Pacific won the GNAC outright in 2002.

Henson (Jr., Spokane, Wa./University) opened up scoring in the match at 4:04 with assistance from Mollie Taylor (Fr., Westlake Village, Ca./Oaks Chistian). Henson has five goals on the season and Taylor has registered an assist in the last two matches.

Lovejoy (So., Seattle, Wa./Seattle Prep.) netted her team and GNAC leading 14th and 15th scores of the season in the match. In the first half, she finished off a rebound off teammate Michelle Sanders’ (Jr., Centralia, Wa.) miss to make it 2-0 Falcons at the half (34:52). The sophomore midfielder hit net at 69:49 for the final margin. Sanders and Heidi Jacobson (So., Kirkland, Wa./Cedar Park Christian-Gonzaga) assisted on the play.

Seattle Pacific nearly equaled its team record for shots, pummeling the Wildcats with 28, two shy of the record 30. Central mustered nine shots in the match and earned one corner kick to the Falcons’ four.

Jennifer Hull (Jr., Eugene, Or./Sheldon) registered her GNAC leading 12th shutout against the Wildcats. Overall, the SPU defense has allowed opponents just five goals on the season.

The Falcons (16-1-2/10-0-1) take to the field Saturday afternoon (Nov. 8) at Seattle University with an outright GNAC Championship on the line. The Redhawks are in second place in the GNAC, just behind SPU. Kick-off is scheduled for 1PM.

NCAA playoff berths will be announced Nov. 10, the top four teams in the Far West Region earning tournament bids. The Falcons were ranked among the region’s top four teams in last week’s poll.
