SEATTLE (Oct. 29) Goals by Kevin Crouch
and Ryan Cleary in the first 30 minutes provided Simon Fraser with
a 2-0 nonconference mens soccer win over Seattle Pacific
University Wednesday night at Interbay Stadium.
Raegyn Hall made just one save as the Clansmen
(9-5-2), ranked No. 16 in NAIA, snapped the Falcons six-game
home win streak. It was the first time SPU (7-7-2) had been
blanked in the last 12 games.
The Clan, the only visiting team to win three
times at Interbay, struck early. In the games fifth minute,
Crouch took a ball from Leigh Sembaluk, turned and found the right
corner from 10 yards.
With SPU starting goalie Michael Lockwood out
of the game after an 9th-minute collision bloodied his nose,
Marius Lundhaug tested reserve keeper Chris Barringer with a high
cross. Cleary beat Barringer to the ball and headed home at 28:48.
The Falcons, who tied SFU 2-2 in Burnaby, B.C.,
last month, had several opportunities to score in the first hour.
David Smith squibbed an open 6-yard shot inches wide left in the
first half. Early in the second period, Andy Willis hit the
crossbar and Ross Vaillancourt, with only Hall to beat, put a
12-yard drive wide right.
Seattle Pacific, which had not lost at home
since last season, finished with a 10-8 edge in shots and 10-0 in
corner kicks. Lockwood return in the second half and made two
saves while Barringer, making his first appearance of the season,
had one.
SPU hosts Seattle University in the Caffe DArte
Coffee Cup Saturday night at 7.
