Seattle U. Snaps Falcons Eight-Game Home Win Streak
October 25, 2003

SEATTLE (Oct. 25) The Seattle Pacific University women’s volleyball team had its perfect home record snapped at the hands of cross-town rival Seattle U. 30-21, 30-21, 28-30, 30-28 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchup Saturday night. Before tonight’s contest, the Falcons were 8-0 at home and riding a nine-match home winning streak extending to last season. Chelsey Myers (So., Minden, Nv./Douglas) and Jessica Bauder (Jr., Richland, Wa./Col. Basin) led the Falcons with 11 kills apiece.

The first two games were owned by the Redhawks (9-4, 13-7) who held the Falcons (6-7, 13-7) to a combined .112 on offense. SPU did not hold a lead in the match until midway through the third game when Bauder recorded three straight aces to give her team a 19-16 lead. The Redhawks regained their footing and led 27-26 before the Falcons won three of the last four points to take game three and extend the match.

In game four, the Redhawks again jumped out to a lead, but like in game two, the Falcons made things interesting. SPU fought off five match points to come within striking distance at 28-29 but fell victim to a cross my Megan Kaysinger who sealed the match for the Redhawks.

Redhawks freshman Whitney Dibble (Fr., Reno, Nv./Galena) led the Falcons on defense with six blocks and was joined by fellow frosh Tiffany Butac (Fr., Pearl City, Hi./Hawaii Baptist) who picked up a season-high 27 digs.

The Falcons finish off the season’s road schedule this week with matches at Saint Martin’s and Central Washington.
