SEATTLE (Oct. 25) The Seattle Pacific
University womens volleyball team had its perfect home
record snapped at the hands of cross-town rival Seattle U. 30-21,
30-21, 28-30, 30-28 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference
matchup Saturday night. Before tonights contest, the Falcons
were 8-0 at home and riding a nine-match home winning streak
extending to last season. Chelsey Myers (So., Minden, Nv./Douglas)
and Jessica Bauder (Jr., Richland, Wa./Col. Basin) led the Falcons
with 11 kills apiece.
The first two games were owned by the Redhawks
(9-4, 13-7) who held the Falcons (6-7, 13-7) to a combined .112 on
offense. SPU did not hold a lead in the match until midway through
the third game when Bauder recorded three straight aces to give
her team a 19-16 lead. The Redhawks regained their footing and led
27-26 before the Falcons won three of the last four points to take
game three and extend the match.
In game four, the Redhawks again jumped out to
a lead, but like in game two, the Falcons made things interesting.
SPU fought off five match points to come within striking distance
at 28-29 but fell victim to a cross my Megan Kaysinger who sealed
the match for the Redhawks.
Redhawks freshman Whitney Dibble (Fr., Reno,
Nv./Galena) led the Falcons on defense with six blocks and was
joined by fellow frosh Tiffany Butac (Fr., Pearl City, Hi./Hawaii
Baptist) who picked up a season-high 27 digs.
The Falcons finish off the seasons road
schedule this week with matches at Saint Martins and Central
Washington.
