SEATTLE (Oct. 24) The Seattle Pacific
University womens volleyball team extended its home win
streak to eight matches with a victory over Northwest Nazarene
30-2, 30-21, 17-30, 30-23 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference
matchup Friday night. Chelsey Myers (So., Minden, Nv./Douglas) and
Katie Ralph (So., Port Orchard, Wa./S. Kitsap) led the Falcons
with 11 kills apiece.
The Falcons (6-6, 13-6) are now 8-0 this season
at home and have won nine straight extending back to last season
at Brougham Pavilion. The loss for the Crusaders (6-6, 9-12) snaps
a four-match winning streak.
SPU blew past NNU in the first two games which
included a remarkable .238 hitting percentage in the opening
stanza. The Falcons offensive barrage lost some steam in the third
game when Northwest opened with a 21-9 lead and posted a .359
hitting percentage as a team. SPUs offense never regained
its momentum from early in the match, but managed to stay on top
of the Crusaders in the fourth game to seal the victory.
Whitney Dibble (Fr., Reno, Nv./Galena) recorded
eight kills for the Falcons and a .273 hitting average in a
starting role. She also added a team high five blocks. Myers also
added three service errors for the Falcons with each coming in
game s three and four.
Katie Higgins (Sr., Kirkland, Wa./Redmond) led
the Falcons with 42 assists while Tiffany Butac (Fr., Pearl City,
Hi./Hawaii Baptist) led the Falcons in the libero position with 20
digs.
The Falcons take on cross-town nemesis Seattle
University tomorrow night at Brougham Pavilion.
