Jacobson, Lovejoy Send No. 13 Falcons to Another Victory

PHOENIX (Oct. 20) – Shannon Lovejoy and Heidi Jacobson each scored goals as 13th-ranked Seattle Pacific University extended its unbeaten streak to a school-record 12 games by beating Cal State San Bernardino 2-0 in a nonconference women’s soccer game Monday afternoon.

The Falcons (12-1-2), who jumped seven spots in the NCAA Division II poll this week, also established a new mark for consecutive shutouts. Goalkeeper Jennifer Hull (Jr., Eugene, Or.) made two saves to earn the team’s fifth shutout in a row. SPU has allowed four goals this season, including only one in the last 10 games.

Seattle Pacific hosts 21st-ranked Seattle University in a game for the Great Northwest Athletic Conference lead Thursday at 7.

Jacobson (So., Kikrland, Wa./Cedar Park Christian) set-up the game’s first goal in the 13th minute by taking the ball to the endline before cutting it across the face of the goal for Lovejoy’s (So., Seattle, Wa./Seattle Prep) 6-yard shot and 10th goal of the season.She has five in the last five games.

Jacobson got her sixth goal in the 62nd minute, taking a through ball from Lovejoy and beating Kim Cathey, the San Bernardino keeper, on the breakaway.

SPU, playing in 96-degree, midday heat, finished with a 7-3 edge in shots over the Coyotes (10-5-2).
