20th-Ranked SPU, Morelli Strike Early; Women's Soccer Posts 4th Straight Shutout
October 18, 2003

PHOENIX (Oct. 18) -- Theresa Morelli scored two goals and 20th-ranked Seattle Pacific University posted its fourth straight shutout, 5-0 over Grand Canyon in a nonconference women's soccer game Saturday night.

Megan Lienhard (So., Everett, Wa./Cascade), Michelle Everson (So., Tacoma, Wa./Stadium) and Shannon Lovejoy (So., Seattle, Wa./Seattle Prep) also added goals for the Falcons (11-1-2), who won their fourth straight and extended their unbeaten string to 11 games. The Antelopes (1-14-0) dropped their 12th in a row.

Seattle Pacific quickly pounced on a struggling Canyon team, going ahead 4-0 in the first 21 minutes. Morelli (Fr., Bellevue, Wa./Bellevue Christian) wasted little time in opening the scoring, netting her fourth goal of the year in the third minute off a pass by Heidi Jacobson (So., Kirkland, Wa./Cedar Park Christian). Five minutes later, Lienhard made it 2-0.

Morelli and Everson scored three minutes apart. Lovejoy notched her Great Northwest Athletic Conference-leading ninth goal with 43 seconds left in the game.

Jennifer Hull (Jr., Eugene, Or.)and Erin Pierce (So., Milwaukie, Or.) split the shutout in goal, making a combined three saves. SPU finished with a 15-5 advantage in shots.

SPU faces Cal State San Bernardino Monday afternoon before returning home for the final five matches.
