SEATTLE, Wa.Jeremy Bonner netted the
golden goal late in the second period of overtime as Seattle
Pacific University beat Pacific Lutheran 3-2 OT, in a
non-conference mens soccer match Wednesday night at Interbay
Stadium.
Bonner (So., Sammamish, Wa./Eastlake) was the
recipient of a Michael Brkich (Jr., Vancouver, B.C./Vienna
Christian/Coastal Carolina) pass and finished to the right post
from 12 yards out on the left side (106:11) to end the match.
It looked to be all Falcons early on, as Ross
Vallaincort (So., Bedford, NH., Manchester West) opened up scoring
in the match at 1:49 with assistance from midfielder Michael
Morris (Fr., Bothell, Wa./Blanchet). Seattle Pacific scored its
second at 34:26 via Andy Willis (Fr., Gig Harbor, Wa.)
seven-yard strike.
In the second half, the Lutes luck
changed. At 56:39, Michael Rosenau attempted to cross a ball thru
the SPU goal mouth and hit net when Falcon keeper James Ward (Jr.,
Salem, Or./Sprague) mishandled the ball. Twenty minutes later,
Trevor Jacka scored unassisted from 14 yards out to knot the match
at two (77:10).
The overtime periods were played evenly by both
teams before Brkich slipped by two defenders and PLU keeper Jarad
Harman and hit Bonner with the assist.
Seattle Pacific improved to 5-5-2 on the season
with the victory. The Falcons out shot the Lutes 12-10, but earned
just three corner kicks to PLUs 5. Ward and Harman
registered three saves apiece, in goal.
The Falcons play at Grand Canyon Saturday
afternoon in another non-conference contest. Kick-off is scheduled
for 5:30. SPU returns to Interbay Oct. 24, for a Great Northwest
Athletic Conference match with Humboldt State.
