Falcons' Unbeaten Run Snapped Suddenly, 3-2, in Men's Soccer Action
October 11, 2003

SEATTLE (Oct. 11) -- Two late defensive lapses wiped-out goals by Manfredo Rendon and Andy Willis as Seattle Pacific University's six-game men's soccer unbeaten streak was snapped by Seattle University, 3-2 in overtime Saturday at Championship Field.

Seattle U.'s Alex Chursky ended the game when his 18-yard shot could not be held by SPU goalie Michael Lockwood in the sixth minute of sudden-death overtime. The Redhawks' Bobby McAlister had tied the score with 2 minutes, 10 seconds left in regulation.

Seattle Pacific suffered its first conference loss and is now 1-1-1 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference and 4-5-2 overall. Seattle University improved to 3-0-0 and 6-4-0. The two teams meet again Nov. 1 at Interbay Stadium.

After Seattle U. opened the scoring on Chursky's first goal in the 30th minute, Rendon (Jr., Bellingham, Wa./Sehome) pulled the visitors level by heading in a rebound from point-blank range shortly after intermission.

Willis (Fr., Gig Harbor, Wa.) crashed home another rebound in the 66th minute for his third goal of the season. Jremy Yerkes (Jr., Gresham, Or.), whose initial shots set-up both goals

James Ward (Jr., Salem, Or.), who had started in goal for the Falcons, moved to midfield at halftime with Lockwood (Fr., Wilsonville, Or.) replacing him.

Seattle Pacific, which had not lost since Sept. 8, lost forward Nick Letts (So., Dublin, Ca.) in the first half after the starting forward collided with SU goalie Brandon Sewell and suffered a shoulder injury.

Seattle Pacific hosts Pacific Lutheran in a nonconference game Wednesday night at Interbay Stadium.
