BELLINGHAM, Wash. (Oct. 11) -- Behind the top-seven finishes of Jamie Witt and Josie Lavin, the 24th-ranked Seattle Pacific University women's cross country team won the Western Washington Invitational at Lake Padden Park Saturday.

Witt (Jr., Folsom, Ca.) took second place and was first among collegians while Lavin (Jr., Bremerton, Wa.) was seventh overall. The Falcons scored a comfortable victory with 59 points, compared to runner-up Central Washington's 78. It was the first time SPU has won at Lake Padden since 1981.

Abby Groth (So., Roseburg, Or.), Ruth Harbaugh (So., Gig Harbor, Wa.) and Summer Huntington (Fr., Marysville, Wa./M-P) were the other SPU scorers, finishing 18th, 24th and 29th, respectively.

Western Washington easily secured the men's team title with 34 points. Alaska Anchorage was next with 70. Seattle Pacific was fifth with 107.
