BELLINGHAM, Wash. (Oct. 4) -- Behind Jamie
Witt's second runner-up finish in as many weeks, the Seattle
Pacific University women's cross country team defeated Western
Washington in a dual scored meet at the Silver Lake Open Saturday
afternoon.
Witt (Jr., Folsom, Ca.) ran the 3-mile course
in 18 minutes, 19 seconds. Kathleen Memi won the race in 17:56.
Witt has now finished third or better in each of her four outings
this fall.
Despite missing several key harriers, the
Falcons were able to edge Western, 25-32, on the strength of their
fourth and fifth scorers. Abby Groth (So., Roseburg, Or.) was
fifth overall in 19:25 and Ruth Harbaugh (So., Gig Harbor, Wa.)
sixth in 19:26. Kirsten Bjork (Sr., Olympia, Wa./Black Hills) ran
eighth in 19;47 and Becky Knox (So., Denver, Co.) cinched the
outcome, taking 11th in 20:05 -- four places ahead of the final
WWU scorer.
Next week the men and women are entered in the
Western Washington Invitational at Lake Padden.
