October 3 (Seattle) -- Chelsey Myers' (So.,
Minden, Nv./Douglas) school-record-tying 30 kills led a Seattle
Pacific University rally from a 1-2 game deficit and an 11-12 gap
in game five to beat Central Washington University 24-30, 30-28,
28-30, 30-18, 15-12 Friday night at Brougham Pavilion in a Great
Northwest Athletic Conference matchup.
With the win over the Wildcats (4-3, 5-1), the
Falcons (3-4, 10-4) remain unbeaten at home this season in six
tries.
Kathleen Monda (Jr., Woodinville, Wa/Whatcom
CC) scored the final three points for the Falcons in game five.
She broke a 12-12 stalemate with a kill down the line and followed
it up with a service ace that found a hole after hitting the net
to reach match point. Monday then finished the match with a kill
from the right side that struck hardwood after hitting the
Wildcats defenders.
Jessica Bauder (Jr., Richland, Wa./Col. Basin
CC) recorded 20 kills for the Falcons and tacked on four aces with
a powerful jump serve. Katy Higgins (Sr., Kirkland, Wa./Redmond)
recorded 47 assists.
Andrea Pennington (Sr., Bellingham, Wa./Whatcom
Cc) led the Falcons from the back line with 24 digs. Also on
defense, Andra Taylor (Sr., Camas, Wa./Mt. Hood CC) shined for SPU
with six blocks, including four unassisted.
Myers' 30 kills ties the record set last year
by Monica Herrera.
Leanne McGauhey led the Wildcats with 21 kills
and a remarkable .425 hitting percentage. As a team, the Wildcats
recorded 84 digs.
The Falcons are back in action tomorrow night
at Brougham Pavilion. The match begins at 7 p.m.
