Witt Is Sundodger Open Runner-Up, Falcon Women Third
September 27, 2003

SEATTLE (Sept. 27) -- Jamie Witt raced to second place and helped the Seattle Pacific University women's team finish third overall in the Sundodger Open cross country meet Saturday at Lincoln Park.

Tim LeCount (So., Battle Ground, Wa.) finished eight in the men's race, with the team ninth.

Witt (Jr., Folsom, Ca.) was the top collegiate runner and, after being in the top seven for much of the first half of the race, pulled out with eventual winner Jenny Rodgers. Rodgers was timed in 17 minutes, 37 seconds over the 5000-meter course. Witt, who had run sixth two years ago, was next in 17:46.

The Falcons' Josie Lavin (Jr., Bremerton, Wa), coming off a win last week, was 13th in 18:19 despite being slowed by the flu earlier in the week.

Britsih Columbia (55 points) and Simon Fraser (79), two Canadian schools, finished 1-2. SPU scored 146 and was far and away the top NCAA Division II team.

LeCount followed his usual pattern of reeling in leaders over the final 3000 meters of the 8k race. He was second among Great Northwest Athletic Conference harriers in 25:11. Richard Mosley of Simon Fraser coasted to first in 24:24. Western Washington picked up another win with 64 points. The Falcons totaled 275, third among GNAC teams.

Next week SPU will send the women to Whatcom County for a short dual with Western Washington. The men are likely to compete at the Willamette Invitational.
