SEATTLE (Sept. 19) - Jeremy Bonner's goal
shortly before halftime paved the way to Seattle Pacific
University's 3-0 non-conference men's soccer win over Montana
State Billings Friday at Interbay Stadium.
The Falcons (2-4-1) also got second-half goals
from freshmen Michael Morris and Andy Willis in extending their
unbeaten run to three games.
Seven minutes after entering the game, Bonner
(So., Sammamish, Wa./Eastlake) knocked in a rebound from 8 yards
after David Smith's initial shot had hit the crossbar.
Morris (Fr., Bothell, Wa./Blanchet) sent a
20-yard drive into the right corner in the 50th minute for a 2-0
lead and Willis (Fr., Gig Harbor, Wa.) slid into a ball from
point-blank range with 19:16 remaining. Smith (Jr., Corvallis,
Or.) assisted on two goals.
Seattle Pacific finished with a 13-0 advantage
in shots and 7-3 in corner kicks. James Ward (Jr., Salem, Or.) was
not called upon to make a save in registering his second shutout.
MSU Billings (5-3-1) keeper Jess Feldtman
stopped six shots, including a tip over the crossbar following a
volley by Morris midway through the first period. Willis hit the
right post just before intermission. The win was the 543rd for SPU
Coach Cliff McCrath, who, with the next victory, will tie retired
San Francisco coach Steve Negoesco for No. 2 all-time behind
Wheaton's Joe Bean.
SPU hosts San Francisco State Thursday night at
