LACEY, Wash. (Sept. 13) -- Jamie Witt of
Seattle Pacific University won a close decision for the women's
individual title and led the Falcons to second overall at the
Saint Martin's Open cross country meet Saturday. Tim LeCount (So.,
Battle Ground, Wa.) of SPU finished fourth in the men's race,
which was won by Northwest College's Phil Olson.
Witt (Jr., Folsom, Ca.) finished just 0.77
seconds ahead of Northwest's Kristina Proticova. Witt's time for
the 5000 meters was 18 minutes, 1.01 seconds. It was her first
collegiate victory in cross country.
Also in the top 10 was the Falcons' Josie Lavin
(Jr., Bremerton, Wa.), seventh in 18:43.88.
Northwest College with five scorers in the
women's top 10, totaled 25 points. Seattle Pacific was next with
64, followed by Seattle University with 81.
Olson won his second meet in a row, this time
clocking the 8k course in 25:22.00. LeCount was timed in 26:35.
Paul Mach was the next SPU harrier, taking 15th in 27:30.
Western Washington claimed first in the men's
team scoring with 56 points. SPU was fifth with 96.
The Falcons are entered in the Central
Washington Invitational next Saturday at Ellensburg.
