ANCHORAGE, AK Jessica Bauder (Jr.,
Richland, Wa./Col. Basin) recorded 22 kills to lead the Seattle
Pacific University volleyball team Friday night, but it was
Alaska-Anchorage who came away the 30-28, 25-30, 20-30, 30-28,
10-15 winner. For the Falcons (7-1, 0-1), it was their Great
Northwest Athletic Conference opening match and their first loss
thus far.
The Falcons took an early 1-0 lead over
Anchorage (7-2, 1-0) before dropping the next two. SPU snared game
four with a remarkable .390 hitting percentage to force a decisive
fifth frame. The Falcons offense dropped off to a .045 mark while
Anchorage hit for .353 to steal the victory in the match lasting
more than two hours.
Bauder added 12 digs and a pair of service aces
to tonights line for the Falcons. Andrea Pennington (Sr.,
Bellingham, Wa./Whatcom) picked up 17 digs to lead the Falcons
from the back row. Chelsey Myers (So., Minden, Nv./Douglas) added
16 kills for the Falcons and blocked three Anchorage attacks for
points.
Five Anchorage attackers finished with
double-figure kill totals and combined for 12 service aces. Kasey
Keulper recorded 61 assists for Anchorage.
SPU is back in action tomorrow night at
Alaska-Fairbanks.
