SEATTLE, Wa. (Sept. 11)-Heidi Jacobson scored
and had a pair of assists as the Seattle Pacific University
women's soccer team routed Western Oregon 5-1, to kick-off Great
Northwest Athletic Conference play Thursday evening at Interbay
Stadium.
Jacobson (So., Kirkland, Wa./Cedar Park
Christian/Gonzaga) struck first in the match with an unassisted
shot to the left post past Wolves starting keeper Moani Mundo at
27:54. The sophomore forward followed just over four minutes later
(32:08) with an assist to teammate Shannon Lovejoy (Seattle,
Wa./Seattle Prep.) as Lovejoy half-volleyed Jacobson's cross to
the left post from fifteen yards.
At 36:32, freshman Theresa Morelli (Bellevue,
Wa./Bellevue Christian) fired yet another shot at the Wolves' left
post but the ball ricocheted back to the six-yard line. Morelli
did not miss her second try and boosted the Falcons to a 3-0 lead
at the half.
During the second half of play, Jacobson
garnered her second assist of the night. The forward slipped a
pass to teammate Jessica Henson (Jr., Spokane, Wa./University).
Henson put a shot out of the reach of charging Western Oregon
keeper Amanda Nelson and into the net from 18-yards.
Megan Lienhard (So., Everett, Wa./Cascade)
rounded out the scoring for SPU at 78:32.
Western Oregon's sole goal came from the foot
of forward Kim Weaver at 79:14.
Seattle Pacific out shot Western Oregon 13-5,
and held a 3-1 advantage on corner kicks. Wolves' keepers Mundo
and Amanda Nelson combined for six saves and Seattle Pacific's
Jennifer Hull and Erin Pierce teamed for three.
The Falcons, now 4-1 overall (1-0 GNAC), finish
their three-game home stand with a 4 o'clock non-conference match
versus Montana State Billings on Monday (Sept. 15).
