BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Sept. 8) -- Held scoreless
for the third time in its first four games, Seattle Pacific
University lost its fourth straight game, 1-0 to Cal State San
Bernardino Monday night.
Seattle Pacific has lost its first four games
only once before, in 1969. It has never started 0-5-0. The Falcons
begin Great Northwest athletic Conference play Thursday at
Humboldt State.
The Falcons (0-4-0) fell behind after 26
minutes and despite a flurry of chances in the final 10 minutes
could not draw even with the Coyotes (3-1-0). SPU fired 11 of its
15 shots and earned all eight of its corner kicks in the second
half.
John Richardson scored the game's only goal as
a 50-yard ball over the top of the defense beat the offside trap.
Richardson went 1-on-1 with SPU goalie James Ward and scored from
18 yards at 25:22. Ward, who made four saves, came out of the nets
to play forward during the final 12 minutes.
Each of the first three losses was to the top
three teams in the Far West Region and all are nationally ranked.
Three of the losses were by one goal, the other'to No. 2-ranked
Cal State Dominguez Hills'was by two.
