Falcons Notch Two More Wins as Tourney Hosts, Volleyball Team Remains Undefeated
September 6, 2003

SEATTLE (Sept. 6) -- Jessica Bauder (Jr., Richland, Wa./Col. Basin) slammed 20 kills to lead the Seattle Pacific University volleyball team past Cal State Stanislaus 28-30, 30-28, 30-27, 30-28 Saturday night at the SPU/Comfort Suites Classic at Brougham Pavilion. A recap of the tournament, including the All-Tournament Team, is below.

The Falcons (7-0) continued their season-opening win streak by bouncing back from a zero-to-one match score and a 26-28 deficit in the second game against Stanislaus (0-3) to complete their three-game tourney sweep.

Chelsey Myers (So., Minden, Nv./Douglas) and Kathleen Monda (Jr., Woodinville, Wa./WSU) joined Bauder in double-figures with 14 and 11 kills, respectively.

Jenna Van Moos (Jr., Stanwood, Wa./Stanwood) returned to the lineup after missing two matches due to injury to lead the Falcons with 46 assists and three service aces.

The Falcons began the day with a sweep of Cal State Dominguez Hills 30-17-, 30-19, 30-13 behind a balanced offensive attack. Bauder led the SPU front line with 13 kills, but Ralph and Pennington were not far behind with 10 kills apiece. Ralph hit a remarkable .474 followed be an equally impressive .379 from Bauder. As a team, the Falcons hit .369 in that first match of the day.

In other tournament action, 6th-ranked Western Washington defeated Cal State Stanislaus. Western's kristy Carstensen pointed 13 while Rachelle Cooper added 12. Western notched its second sweep of the day just four hours later, this time soundly finishing off UC Davis. Megan Evoy recorded 16 kills and a .429 hitting percentage to lead the Vikings.
