SEATTLE (Sept. 6) - Behind Jamie Witt's
third-pace finish, the Seattle Pacific University women's cross
country team placed second overall in the Division II-III flight
at the Emerald City Open on Saturday at Lower Woodland Park.
Two Northwest College runners were the
individual champions. Danyel Longmier took the women's crown,
touring the 5000-meter course in 18 minutes, 27 seconds, and Phil
Olson was the men's titlist, leading the Eagles to the team
championship in that division with a 25:57 clocking over the 8k
course.
Western Washington's Laura Trevellyan was
runner-up to Longmeier in 18:47 and Witt (Jr., Folsom, Ca.) was
next in 18:54. Northwest College scored 26 points, followed by the
Falcons' 65 and Western's 73.
Also scoring for SPU were Josie Lavin (Jr.,
Bremerton, Wa.), 10th in 19:24; Karen Dickson (Fr., Eldorado
Hills, Ca.), 21st in 20:31; Ruth Harbaugh (So., Gig Harbor, Wa.),
24th in 20:37; and Kirsten Bjork (Sr., Olympia, Wa.), 29th in
20:47.
Seattle Pacific was fourth in the the men's
division. Western won with a low score of 20 points, followed by
Puget Sound ( 59), host Seattle University (70) and SPU (91).
Tim LeCount (So., Battle Ground, Wa.) paced the
Falcons, taking 12th in 27:30. Paul Mach (Sr., Seattle,
Wa./King's) was 17th in 28;08; Bjorn Bostrom (Fr., LaConner,
Wa./Bellingham), 27th in 29:01; Aaron Libadisos (Jr. Kailua-Kona,
Hi.), 33rdin 29:16; Eddie Strickler (Fr., Richland, Wa.), 43rd in
30:08; and Michael Gavareski (Fr., Bellingham, Wa./Bellingham),
46th in 30:23.
SPU competes in the Saint Martin's Open next
Saturday at Lacey.
