SACRAMENTO (Mar. 29) -- Ally Studer of Seattle
Pacific University tied her own school record in the pole vault
and went to the top of the NCAA Division II track & field
qualifying list Saturday at the Hornet Invitational.
Studer (Jr., Redmond, Wa./Redmond), a
three-time All-America who finished fourth in the NCAA indoor meet
earlier this month, tied for first with Utah's Brooke LoBue with a
final clearance of 12 feet, 2 inches. Studer originally set her
SPU record as a freshman in 2001.
The Falcons' Sarah Kraybill (Sr., Seattle,
Wa./Ballard) and Paul Mach (Jr., Seattle, Wa./King's) each took
second place in their respective races with provisional qualifying
marks. Kraybill ran the No. 2 800-meter time in the nation, 2
minutes, 10.50 seconds, but was beaten at the wire by Genevieve
Mendoza's 2:10.09.
In the men's 400 hurdles, Mach ran a
personal-best time of 53.19, which rates fourth among Div. II
qualifiers and No. 2 all-time at Seattle Pacific.
Nick Santana of Sacramento State won in 52.90.
Other notable SPU marks included Jose Lavin's
(So., Bremerton, Wa.) PR of 2:15.07 in the 800 while Scott Van
Hess (Sr., Salem, Or.) shattered his PR in 1:55.97.
The Falcons compete at the Vernacchia
Invitational in Bellingham Saturday.
