Season-High Score, McDaniel All-Around Win Not Enough for SPU
March 14, 2003

SACRAMENTO (Mar. 14) -- Despite a season-high team score, Seattle Pacific University's string of dual meet victories was snapped by Sacramento State Friday night at Hornet Gym.

The Hornets, getting a season-best score themselves, avenged an earlier loss to the Falcons b a score of 193.000-192.325. The Falcons, who had won their last three duals, led after three rotations, 144.050-144.075, but the Hornets outscored SPU on floor (48.925-47.875) to capture the come-from-behind victory. For Sacramento State, the floor score was a season-high mark.

Seattle Pacific's Corrie McDaniel led all competitors with a season-high score of 38.975 to capture the all-around title. McDaniel also placed first on beam with a score of 9.825. She was also third on vault (9.700) and fourth on the uneven bars (9.775).

Melissa Stanton was runner-up on both bars (9.825) and balance beam (9.700). Courtney Amonsen finished tied for third on beam (9.675).

Sac State sophomores Jessica Hoffman and Nirvana Zaher each recorded career-high all-around marks. Zaher, a native of Cairo, Egypt, finished second all-around with a score of 38.825. Zaher finished first on vault with a mark of 9.750 and also recorded a career-high 9.725 on bars to help pace the squad. Hoffman an finished third all-around with a score of 38.600 while also placing tied for third on beam with a career-high 9.675. Binta Coleman recorded a career-high 9.850 on bars and senior Jenny Diamond tallied a 9.850 on floor to round out the Hornets' event champions. Diamond also placed second on vault with a score of 9.725.

Seattle Pacific faces Cal State Fullerton and Washington next Friday at Bank of America Arena before hosting Fullerton and Alaska Anchorage Mar. 22 in the final home meet.
