No. 1 Falcons Women Beat Humboldt, Complete Perfect Regular Season
March 8, 2003

SEATTLE (March 8) -- Kelley Berglund (Sr., 6-3, Port Angeles, Wa./ Washington State) scored a game-high 18 points in just 19 minutes to lead the Seattle Pacific University women's basketball team past Humboldt State 78-44 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion.

A record 1475 packed the Pavilion to watch the Falcons (18-0, 27-0) record their 33rd straight home victory and clinch the first-ever perfect regular season record for a Seattle Pacific team.

SPU is currently ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Division II national poll and first in the West Region. The regional tournament host institution and seedings are scheduled to be announced on Sunday.

Seattle Pacific finished the game on a 39-13 run after allowing the Lumberjacks (4-14, 9-18) to within eight points at the 15-minute mark in the second half. The Falcons began the contest with a 19-5 run, but saw their lead cut to four points shortly thereafter and 10 at the half. The offense hit stride in the second half, however, shooting 50 percent, compared with 37 in the first frame.

Berglund shot six-for-nine from the floor and six-of-seven from the charity stripe. Mandy Wood (Fr., 5-6, Port Angeles, Wa./Port Angeles) was the only other Falcon in double-figures, finishing with 12 points off the bench. She converted two three-pointers and finished four-of-six from the floor.

Kerie Hughes (Sr., 5-6, Mount Vernon, Wa./Mount Vernon) tied her career- high with six steals and handed out a game-high eight assists. Kristin Poe reeled in nine rebounds off the bench for Seattle Pacific.

The West Region tournament begins Friday and culminates with the championship game on Monday.
