Falcon Gymnasts Tumble Sac State with Season-High Team Score
March 1, 2003

Complete Results

SEATTLE, Wa. (March 1)-Melissa Stanton won the uneven bars and Corrie McDaniel finished first on floor exercise as USA Gymnastics sixth-ranked Seattle Pacific University tumbled Mountain Pacific Sports Federation foe Sacramento State 192.075 to 190.125 in a meet Saturday night at Brougham Pavilion.

The Falcons' 192.075 was more than two full points better than their previous best (190.025) and the victory over the Hornets marked Seattle Pacific's fourth straight win in as many meets and its first victory over a Division I opponent in a year.

Stanton's (Jr., Rapid City, SD) 9.850 bar score was a season high. The junior transfer also finished second on balance beam with a 9.650.

McDaniel (So., Lawrence, Ks.) flipped a 9.825 on floor during the final rotation. The all-arounder fell off bars earlier in the meet causing her to finish third in the four-event competition. Sacramento's Nirvana Zaher won the all-around with a 38.750. McDaniel scored a solid 37.725.

Zaher won vault (9.750) and balance beam for the Hornets (9.750) and finished in a two way tie for second with teammate Jenny Diamond on floor. Kimiye Narasaki capped a pair of second place finishes for Sac State on vault (9.700) and bars (9.700).

The Falcons (4-6) got podium finishes from Jennifer Christman (Jr., Fairfield, Ca.) and Annastasia Ahr (Jr., San Antonio, Tx.) on bars (9.700). The pair finished in a three-way tie for second place with Narasaki. Ahr also tied for second on beam with Stanton (9.650).

Seattle Pacific hits the road to Corvallis next weekend with a tri-meet against NCAA Division I powerhouse Oregon State and Denver. Official start time is 7o'clock. SPU returns home March 22, to take on Alaska Anchorage for its final home meet of 2003.
