SEATTLE (Feb. 20) -- Mandy Wood (Fr., 5-6, Port
Angeles, Wa./Port Angeles) recorded a team-high 15 points to lead
the Seattle Pacific University women's basketball team past
Seattle University 86-40 in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference
game Thursday night at Brougham Pavilion. The Falcons are
currently ranked No. 1 in the NCAA Division II national poll and
first in the West Region.
The Falcons (13-0, 22-0) began the contest on a
12-0 run, not allowing the Redhawks (2-12, 7-15) a field-goal
until five minutes into the game. By the 5:12 mark in the first
half, the Falcons had built a 25-point lead and were well on their
way to extending their record home winning streak to 30 straight
games and recording their second largest margin of victory this
season. The win marked the eleventh straight for the Falcons over
Seattle U.
Seattle U. shot just 24 percent in the contest,
converting only 12-of-50 shot attempts, including 3-for-19
shooting from behind the three-point arc.
Meanwhile, the Falcons shot 63 percent in the
second half and 59 percent overall, even though they struggled at
the charity stripe on 16-fo-25 shooting.
The rebounding edge also belonged to the
Falcons who reeled in 41 boards, compared to just 26 for the
Redhawks. Carli Smith (Fr., 5-11, Spokane, Wa./Valley Christian)
led Seattle Pacific with 12 rebounds.
Wood converted three-of-six three-point
attempts in 24 minutes off the bench. Stephanie Urrutia (Sr., 5-9,
Sunnyside, Wa./Sunnyside) joined her in double-figures with 13
points. Kerie Hughes (Sr., 5-6, Mount Vernon, Wa./Mount Vernon)
handed out a game-high eight assists.
Seattle Pacific hosts No. 3 Western Washington
on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Pavilion.
