FAIRBANKS (Feb. 13) -- A three-game win streak
by Seattle Pacific University was snapped in an 86-78 loss to
Alaska Fairbanks late Thursday night in a Great Northwest Athletic
Conference game at Patty Center.
Steve Towne poured in 27 points as the Nanooks
(9-3, 16-5) took over second place in the GNAC and remained
unbeaten (11-0) at home.
The Falcons (8-3, 12-8), losing for only the
second time in eight games, were paced by the 15 points of center
Jason Chivers (So., 6-8, Palmdale, Ca.). Top scorer Yusef Aziz
finished with a season-low eight points and just 3-for-15
shooting.
Tiwne, a 6-foot-2 senior from Bothell, hit four
three-pointers and 9-11 free throws. Jason Williams added 13
points and 13 boards. Fairbanks hit 60 percent of its field goals
(28-47), committed only 12 turnovers and made 13 more trips to the
foul line.
Chivers was one of only two SPU starters to
finish in double figures.
Gene Woodard (Sr., 6-4, Edmonds, Wa./O'Dea) and
Tony Binetti (Fr., 6-1, Enumclaw, Wa.) each came off the bench for
12 points.
SPU visits Alaska Anchorage Saturday night
before returning home for four of its final six games.
