SPU Men's Streak Snapped at Fairbanks, 86-78
February 13, 2003

FAIRBANKS (Feb. 13) -- A three-game win streak by Seattle Pacific University was snapped in an 86-78 loss to Alaska Fairbanks late Thursday night in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference game at Patty Center.

Steve Towne poured in 27 points as the Nanooks (9-3, 16-5) took over second place in the GNAC and remained unbeaten (11-0) at home.

The Falcons (8-3, 12-8), losing for only the second time in eight games, were paced by the 15 points of center Jason Chivers (So., 6-8, Palmdale, Ca.). Top scorer Yusef Aziz finished with a season-low eight points and just 3-for-15 shooting.

Tiwne, a 6-foot-2 senior from Bothell, hit four three-pointers and 9-11 free throws. Jason Williams added 13 points and 13 boards. Fairbanks hit 60 percent of its field goals (28-47), committed only 12 turnovers and made 13 more trips to the foul line.

Chivers was one of only two SPU starters to finish in double figures.

Gene Woodard (Sr., 6-4, Edmonds, Wa./O'Dea) and Tony Binetti (Fr., 6-1, Enumclaw, Wa.) each came off the bench for 12 points.
