February 1, 2003

SEATTLE (Feb. 1) -- Ally Studer of Seattle Pacific University went to the top of the NCAA Division II qualifier list in the pole vault by clearing 12 feet, 1 1/2 inches at the Husky Indoor Invitational track & field meet Saturday at the Dempsey Indoor.

Studer (So., Redmond, Wa./Redmond), who had cleared 11-11 earlier, broke her own school indoor record. She finished tied for sixth in a Division I-dominated field. Chelsea Johnson of UCLA was the meet winner at 13-1 1/2.

In other results, the Falcons' Nathanael Castle (Sr., Gooding, Id.) ran a season-best and SPU record mile, in 4 minutes, 14.98 seconds. He took 18th. Castle's previous best this winter was 4:15.31. Danielle Ayers-Stamper (Fr., LaCrosse, Wa.) was ninth in the women's long jump (17-5 1/4) and 16th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.23 seconds). Laura Widman (Sr., Colfax, Wa.) finished 13th in the shot put (39-9 3/4).
